supporting dog shelters

I didn’t plan to adopt Serenity.

To be fair, I wasn’t planning on adopting any dog when I stayed in Cape Town for a few months back in 2018. Yet when I saw her little face at the Oscar’s Arc pop-up tent by the Waterfront, I knew instantly she was coming back to Switzerland with me.

A year ago, my uncle fell hook, line and sinker for Malice*, the furry beauty pictured above. Malice was found on the side of the road near Lyon, France, and brought a local shelter. My uncle was actively looking for a doggo and the connection was immediate – they love each other so much.

*In French, Malice means mischievous, naughty, playful. Very different from the English definition!

Let me clarify – I have no issues whatsoever with getting a dog from a respectable and serious breeder. It’s only a matter of preference, my heart goes to shelter dogs.

Since adopting Serenity, I try to support different shelter, especially in her home country. Here’s a list of amazing shelters and associations that you might want to support if you can. This is a very non-exhaustive list, just the ones I can help at the moment.

Thanks from both of us!
